Dawn and Nick met me down in beautiful Watch Hill for their engagement session this week. In case you don’t read the news, Watch Hill is where Taylor Swift’s beach house is located.
In other words, it’s BEAUTIFUL down there.
Dawn and Nick both love Napatree Point, a long strip of land that reaches out from Watch Hill, one of the most Southern parts of RI. This is the place of white sand beaches, soft rolling surf, and an overall feeling of endless summer. There is a historic carousel right in the middle of town, lots of great little restaurants, and plenty of outdoor stuff to do.
The area of the beach we shot in is quite a hike from the parking lot but head there after 5pm and parking and beach entrance are both free. You have to scale a rather impressive sand dune but then the beach will open up below you, curving in a C shape out to the sea.
I absolutely loved Dawn’s dress. I thought they both aced their outfits actually. Classy, clean, and the pattern on the dress was perfect for a beach session.
We got there just as the stronger light was waning, and my favourite time of day brought very soft, warm light.
“How should we pose?” they asked me when we started out. “Just be you, and be happy with each other.” I do pose some shots during engagement sessions but I love this loose, journalistic style where most of the time, I am just a fly on the wall and my subjects hopefully forget a little bit that we’re taking pictures.
Always gotta get a photograph of the bling 😉
Dawn brought these cute signs and had a few phrases that she wanted to write on them.
Dawn had seen a pose similar to this online at some point so we gave it a shot. I am always willing to give pose ideas a try.
The best light of the day was when we were up in the sand dunes. Love!
At this point the light was almost gone and I was shooting with a pretty high ISO but I love the soft romance of this photo, as if they were the only people left at the beach (they weren’t; I did a lot of editing but it was totally worth it).
